5 Tips for Successful Business Blogging
A blog can be a huge asset to any business. Blogging is a great way to show potential customers that you are knowledgeable in your field and gain their trust. You should approach managing your business’s blog as tactfully as you would any other aspect of your business.

- Keep things relevant. Every post you write should focus on some aspect of your business. Don’t write posts that have nothing to do with your business. Stick to professional topics and avoid personal issues.
- Avoid using your blog as a forum for sponsor posts or paid reviews. Readers often see these posts as deceptive and trying to earn a side income from your blog makes your business look as if it is not doing well enough on its own.
- Consider using guest bloggers and/or outsourcing some of your writing duties. A fresh perspective on the same topic can breathe new life into any blog. If someone in your field has the right expertise and offers to write a guest post, take them up on the offer. Alternatively, you can also outsource some of your writing to freelance writers/bloggers who may approach your blog from a different viewpoint.
- Do not over share information. If you are using an application like Networked Blogs or Google Friend Connect and you don’t have many followers, it is not a good idea to add the widget to your blog. You should also avoid adding a hit counter unless your blog is getting a lot of traffic. You want your blog to appear successful. If people see that you are not getting many site visitors they will have less faith in your blog’s credibility.
- Write in a journalistic style. Personal blogs are personal and usually written in the first person (I, me, my, etc.), but business blogs should be more objective. Writing from a third-person perspective does not mean that your blog will be boring. If you can engage readers’ attention the same way magazine and newspaper writers do, your blog will seem more professional.
Business blogging follows many of the same rules as personal blogging, but the key difference is that your business’s blog is part of your company identity. Approach your business’s blog as if it is a first impression. You wouldn’t show up for a meeting poorly dressed and looking unkempt, so your business’s blog should appear just as professional.
