Five Tips for Video Blogging Success
Video blogging, or Vlogging, is a great way to add dynamic content to your website. Sound and motion immediately engages a visitor’s attention. You don’t need to be professional videographer to create a Vlog. However, knowing some video creation and online marketing basics will make you more successful.
Know Your Lines
Identify your key points before you start shooting. If you don’t have a full script prepared, at least take the time to write an outline and rehearse beforehand. Rambling dialogue on camera is as bad as rambling words. Avoid using cue cards. Keep your eyes focused on the camera just as if you were speaking to an audience.
Set Your Stage
Lighting is essential to good video. If you don’t have professional overhead lights, a couple well-positioned floor lamps or a room with good natural lighting will do. Spend time planning your appearance as well. You don’t have to dress formally, but wear something nice that feels comfortable. You should appear neat and well groomed so that people take you seriously. Pick the best location available to shoot your video. You want people to remember you and the information you’re presenting; not any clutter in the background.
Prepare Your Equipment
A digital camcorder with a tripod is the best way to avoid a shaky video. If all you have is a portable device like a cell phone or a Flip video recorder, place it in a stable position with a good camera angle. Charge your batteries. You don’t want to get cut off in the middle of a making a key point and have to start over again.
Keep it Short and Simple
Vlog posts should ideally run about 5 – 7 minutes. People like useful information explained succinctly. A video that is too long is like a 2,000 word blog post; it’s just too much for one sitting.
Market Like A Pro
YouTube isn’t the only game in town. Consider utilizing other sites like Vimeo and DropShots as well. More uploads equals more exposure. TubeMogul is a great way to distribute videos to multiple sites at once and they provide analytic information as well.
The presentation quality of your video directly relates to how successfully viewers will retain what you’ve told them. Compose every Vlog project as professionally as you would a blog post. Well-presented informative content practically markets itself.
