Three Free Web Analytics Tools

10:14 am

Web analytics is examining data about your website to determine how well it is performing. There is a huge advantage in using more than one web analytics tool because all of them collect different information. You can compare information from different tools to best optimize your website.

Google Analytics

  • Google Analytics is free and has a great interface for beginners. All you have to is register your website and Google will generate tracking code that you need to paste into the HTML code of every page of your website you want to track.
  • WordPress users can simply download the Google Analytics for WordPress plug-in and configure it to synchronize with their Google Analytics account. This is a huge advantage because the plug-in automatically inserts tracking code on every page of your website, including new updates.
  • Google Analytics provides tons of valuable information about how much traffic you’re getting, how many pages they’re viewing and more. Another great feature is that it breaks traffic sources into organic (from search engines) and referrals (links).
  • The website also tells you which keywords are bringing traffic to your site.

SpyderMate

  • SpyderMate is better for analyzing SEO than website traffic. You do have to register for an account with the website. Free accounts are limited to five crawls (reports) per month.
  • One of SpyderMate’s biggest advantages is that it runs your website’s keywords through SEMRush to determine which ones you are ranking for with search engines. For keyword novices this is priceless help.
  • SpyderMate also provides Google and Alexa Page Rank information.

SearchStatus

  • SearchStatus is a free plug-in that is only available for FireFox or SeaMonkey web browsers.
  • SearchStatus simplifies the process of running different searches to find information about your website. For example, you can run a search to see which pages of your website are indexed by Google with one click. You can also do the same thing with Yahoo Site Explorer and Bing.
  • SearchStatus also shows you which pages are linking to your website by running a link search directly through Google and Yahoo Site Explorer.
Getting started with web analytics is easy and free. The combination of these three tools can provide a wealth of information about what kind of traffic your site is getting and help you better optimize your website’s search engine performance.
